懐かしの映画を堪能できる「世界名作映画全集」シリーズの第59巻は、ヘンリー・フォンダが伝説のガンマンであるワイアット・アープに扮した詩情豊かなアクション西部劇。保安官となったアープは弟を殺した犯人を捜し、クラントン一家と対決する。

Wyatt Earp (Henry Fonda) is sworn in as marshal at Tombstone to track down the rustlers who have stolen his cattle and killed his younger brother. One day, the clean-cut and graceful Clementine (Cathy Downs) appears to search for the infamous gunman Doc Holliday (Victor Mature). Wyatt is instantly attracted to her. A clumsy and self-conscious Wyatt taking Clementine to a dance is a heart-warming scene.

The enmity between Wyatt and the relentless rancher Clanton (Walter Brennan) culminates in the legendary shoot-out at the O.K. corral. In this classic western, John Ford portrays Wyatt as a frontier hero who fights for law and order. Arguably, this is John Ford at his best western.
